Yawanawa Life Plan for Territorial Governance
The Yawanawa indigenous people of the Amazonian state of Acre, in Brazil, have long fought successfully to defend their territories from the encroachment of loggers, squatters, land barons and missionaries. They have over the last twenty years explored a variety of options for diversifying incomes and increasing their economic sovereignty. EcoDecision, with support from the USAID AIME project, is working with the Yawanawa to develop a unique project that is linked to the state of Acre’s pioneering jurisdictional REDD+ scheme.
